Cowboys Get A "Hockey Makeover"
From the mid 1960s through 1970, the Dallas Cowboys were the team that couldn’t win the big one. They finally did it following the 1971 season with Roger Staubach leading them to victory in Super Bowl VI. In a recent NFL Films episode from The Timeline, Staubach referred to this team as “Don Meredith’s team,” owing to the long journey of building the Cowboys into a winner from their humble beginnings as a 0–11–1 expansion team in 1960.
Key veterans were added for the Super Bowl run like Mike Ditka, Herb Adderley, Lance Alworth, Forrest Gregg, Gloster Richardson, and Lee Roy Caffey. The veterans added to a team of stars and strong role players that put the team over the top.
This special RetroCards design utilizes the 1971-72 Hockey design which has always been one of the more attractive and colorful designs of that decade. The bubble-like lettering and bright colors were designed to appeal to kids and all these years later they are reminders of a more innocent time. This Cowboys RetroCards 24-card set features: Herb Adderley, Lance Alworth, George Andrie, Mike Clark, Larry Cole, Mike Ditka, Walt Garrison, Cornell Green, Bob Hayes, Calvin Hill, Chuck Howley, Lee Roy Jordan, Bob Lilly, Dave Manders, Craig Morton, Ralph Neely, John Niland, Blaine Nye, Jethro Pugh, Mel Renfro, Roger Staubach, Duane Thomas, Ron Widby, and Rayfield Wright.
