1976 Raiders Finally Taste A Championship
After having lost three straight AFC Championship games from 1973-1975, the Raiders put it all together in 1976 with their first NFL championship in Super Bowl XI. Their 13–1 record was quite a feat after beating arch rival the Pittsburgh Steelers at home in week one with an impressive come from behind victory. This was followed by a brutal 5-game road trip in which they went 4–1, the only loss coming in a 48–17 drubbing from the New England Patriots. From that point on, they didn’t lose again, getting revenge on the Patriots in round one of the playoffs, then beating the Steelers again, and culminating with their Victory over the Minnesota Vikings in the Super Bowl.
The 1977 football card set is a collector’s favorite although many of the top Raider stars are included, several top-notch players and secondary players that were important to the team’s success were missed. As per usual, RetroCards fills in those gaps and more.
This set includes: George Atkinson, Pete Banaszak, Rodrigo Barnes, Morris Bradshaw, Willie Brown, Neal Colzie, Carl Garrett, Ted Hendricks, Ted Kwalick, Errol Mann, Charles Phillips, Charles Philyaw, Mike Rae, Dave Rowe, Mike Siani, Jack Tatum, Skip Thomas, John Madden, a Super Bowl highlight of Fred Biletnikoff, and another Super Bowl highlight of Ken Stabler with ultra-fan James Garner on the sideline.
